BARRYSTAFF president says economy booming, and workers harder than ever to find

DAYTON, OH – This morning the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics issued employment data for the month of April.

The national unemployment rate was announced as 3.6 percent. The U.S. government reported job gains in professional and business services, construction, health care and social assistance.

The unemployment rate of 3.6 percent was the lowest since 1969.

The number of long-term unemployed (people without a job for 27 weeks or more) was little changed at 1.2 million in April. This made up 21 percent of the unemployed.

“These days companies find themselves looking in new places for employees,” Barry said. “For example, it was unheard of a few years ago for manufacturing companies to search online for candidates. But competition for workers is stiff.”

Manufacturing employment changed little for the third month in a row (+4,000). In the 12 months prior to February, the industry had added an average of 22,000 jobs per month.

BarryStaff is an award-winning employment agency that hires workers for more than 100 employers throughout the Miami Valley. The majority of them are in manufacturing.
